ABOUT LV GIRL'S SOFTBALL (LVGS) TEAMS

LVGS offers Intramural and Travel Softball Programs for women and girls from age 4 to age 23. LVGS is run exclusively by volunteers within our community. The home fields are located in New Britain Township at North Branch Park, 207 Park Avenue, Chalfont, PA 18914. Fields #1 #2 and #3 are located directly behind the New Britain Township Administration (and Police) building.

There are two Intramural softball seasons at LVGS. The Spring season runs from late March through mid-June and our Fall ball runs from September to early November. Lenape Valley Softball offers the following divisions: 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U for Intramural Play.

The “Fury” is a full Travel Team program and the “VIGS” is an advanced recreational league for those girls over the age of 15. Please go to www.lvsoftball.org for further information on registration deadlines.

Travel Softball (the "Fury") holds tryouts in August and teams practice and play games throughout the Fall. Travel teams practice through winter and the 'season' lasts from late March through the end of July. The cost and time commitment for Travel Softball is substantially higher than for Intramural teams.

LVGS also offers softball clinics for players seeking skill improvement. Clinics are for girls 8+ years old. Fall and Spring Clinics are outdoors at North Branch Park. Winter Clinics are held at an indoor facility.

SOFTBALL COACHING

LVGS encourages coaches to plan well ahead of practices, to arrive early on site to have time to discuss plans with the other members of the coaching staff before the players arrive. Head Coaches should enlist 3 to 4 assistant coaches, and be prepared to delegate responsibilities at practices and at games.

It is important to teach players softball and not baseball. The major differences with softball are it features smaller fields, underhand pitching, a larger and safer ball and less players per team. It is also important for coaches to modify their approach when dealing with female participants, using the sandwich method of instruction with comments in a positive/negative/positive format.
